Nvidia, makers of a plethora of PC and Android hardware, and have released an update to their tablets. Specifically, this update will (finally) bring 6.0.1 Marshmallow to those of us with their LTE variants that have been waiting too long, to be frank. Some of what’s included in this update are things like support for the Vulkan API, re-positioned Navigation buttons when the tablet is in landscape mode, enhanced memory compression, and fixing a bug related to WiFi connectivity when the tablet is waking up from sleep.

Like always Google will be live broadcasting the opening keynote speech for this year’s Google I/O conference. And just like we do each year, we will be sure to have all the live streams from the entire conference available here for viewing for those of you who can’t make it to the actual event. This year’s Google I/O should be pretty interesting, especially with what we already know is going to be making their debut.
So far in the two years that Nvidia has launched the Nvidia Shield tablet we have had two iterations, the original and then the recently released Tegra K1 version. It seems a new version is passing through the FCC right now and this time it looks like it’ll be sporting the Tegra X1 chipset. This would obviously be a big improvement if this ends up being true.
In other VR news today, word on the virtual street is that Google may be gearing up to release an Android-powered Virtual Reality headset of their own at next week’s Google I/O 2016. This wouldn’t be a massive surprise or anything if it actually came to pass, since this is the next logical step from Google Cardboard in the world of VR headset evolution. This is especially true with yesterday’s news that there is over a million active Gear VR users.
Erik Finman is the person behind a new VR headset that has just launched onto IndieGoGo for additional funding in order to get it manufactured and eventually shipped out to people interested in it. Nvidia has announced that they are offering up an extra peripheral when you purchase a new Shield Android TV, with that extra peripheral coming in the form of a second Shield controller. As you may or may not know, if you buy a Shield Android TV unit, you normally only get one controller.
RiftCat has an application called VRidge for Android which allows users of Android-based VR headsets, such as Google Cardboard, to play PC Virtual Reality games on those non-PC VR headsets. Today’s announcement is a big one, which is an update to VRidge that adds SteamVR and OpenVR support. This essentially means that if you own a Google Cardboard VR headset you can play most, if not all, SteamVR games without needing to pay $799 to own an HTC Vive.

Well after over a year of additional development, the Turret is now finally available for purchase.
