Miniclip has been doing casual games on the PC for a few years now, and it seems they are starting to spread on to the Android Play store. These games are strictly casual affairs, with simple, bright graphics, polished gameplay and best of all almost all of them are free to download. I have been through all their games and have put together my top 3 in no particular order from Miniclip giving each one a quick review.

Robotic Planet Review: The Hidden Gem of Real-Time Strategy

The ‘Real-Time Strategy’ genre has never really flourished on Android with only a few titles of real note (Z Origins and Total War Battles to name a couple). I guess it makes sense with the fact that the most popular RTS games on the PC are mouse and keyboard driven. But with a mouse connected to my Nexus 7, I explored the Play store seeking an RTS game that could prove that this genre can be done right on an Android device. Robotic Planet RTS hit the mark perfectly.

Melesta Games to bring Toy Defense to the shores of Android this month

Originally released onto iOS, Melesta Games has decided to bring their game over to Google Play so you can dive into the world of toys and defense gaming. While the visuals are not eye candy like other games in this genre such as Sentinel 3, they are quite solid looking and fit right with the theme of the game.

A sequel to the classic space trading sim Elite could make its way to mobile devices

Frontier Developments have started up a Kickstarter campaign to help getting a sequel to their rather popular classic space trading sim game called Elite which was originally released back in 1984. At the time Elite featured a revolutionary blend of 3D wire frame graphics and vast procedurally generated galaxies that had not really been accomplished before. Now they are looking to bring a sequel, called Elite: Dangerous, to PCs and David Braben of Frontier Developments has come out to say that they may bring the sequel to mobile devices should they hit/surpass their goal for their Kickstarter campaign.

Chillingo releases Tiny Troopers because size doesn’t matter

Chillingo has brushed off the dust that has collected on them since their last release and have launched a new game onto Google Play called Tiny Troopers. As the game’s description says, in this game you will be taking control of a “petite platoon of crack soldiers in a variety of wee war zones as you battle through an epic third-person-shooter campaign“. Chillingo reassures us that size doesn’t matter, at least not to these guys.

Bridge Captain by Square Particle Corp is here to tide you over till Star Command is out

For those of us looking forward to getting our hands on the upcoming action-sim game from War Drum Studios called Star Command when it is finally released onto Android, we may need something to fill the void in while we are waiting. While not exactly on the same level as Star Command is, there does happen to be a neat little space themed retro game which does give off the same sort of feel that Star Command accomplishes called Bridge Captain by Square Particle Corp.
