There are a few PSP emulators on Android, but which are the best?
At the beginning of this month we talked about a new emulator being developed by the same folk who created the rather widely used fully working Wii emulator called Dolphin for PCs and that they were now working on building a fully functioning emulator called PPSSPP which would let you play all those favorite PSP games you still own. At the time of reporting on this, PPSSPP was only available for download through the developer’s website.
A new emulator is currently being developed by the fine folk who brought the world the fully working Wii emulator called Dolphin for PCs. Apparently the developers got a hold of an Android device finally and decided to do what they do best, build an emulator. However, this particular emulator isn’t another GameBoy or console emulator, which we have plenty of. Instead, this emulator, called PPSSPP, is a Playstation Portable emulator for Android.
Interesting statistics coming our way from Flurry which shows that between Android and iOS, the market share for the Nintendo DS and the Playstation portable are decreasing while the mobile phone gaming market share is increasing… greatly. In fact Nintendo’s DS lost a fairly large chunk of their market share when it comes to portable gaming.
At first this may not seem like it is Android gaming related until you remember that rumor has it that Sony Ericsson is apparently making a PSP Go-like phone using the Android OS. According to Engadget, Sony is considering using Android in more of their products although what exactly those products are is unknown but it’s a fair guess what it might be.
Recently we broke news about a job listing over at Sony Playstation for a Senior Server Engineer and had one of the requirements listed as “Experience in Mobile Development, Specifically Android a plus”. Well it seems that after we broke the story and word spread to numerous sites, Sony got wind and has changed the actual job listing!
It is funny how these things work out sometimes. Ask a lot of questions and you end up receiving the answers eventually. Yesterday we posted about the response from Sony Ericsson about the PSP Go-like Android phone rumored to be in developed. We did think that for someone who didn’t know what we were talking about that their answer was too clean. Well it was!
Almost a week ago reports circulated around starting with Engadget then us and everyone else about a possible phone being developed by Sony Ericsson resembling the PSP GO and supposedly running Android 3.0 upon release. Obviously to everyone who comes here this is like a wet dream to us. More information was needed so the digging started.
Yes the title makes you go “what?!” but Engadget is reporting that Sony Ericsson is working on an Android 3.0 gaming device which, according to the Engadget mock-up, looks a lot like a PSP with phone capabilities. With a slider featuring gaming controls in the phone, this looks to be exactly what the gaming sector of Android needs and looks like every mobile gamers dream.
