[GDC 2015] Hands-on with NetherRealms’ upcoming Mortal Kombat X for Android

One of the games we were very eager to try out during GDC 2015 was NetherRealms’ Mortal Kombat X for Android devices. When we got to where the game was being shown, it was in a nice dark conference room behind closed doors with both the console version as well as the mobile version being available to play. Without wasting any time we went over to the table where all the tablets were, sat down, and began playing Mortal Kombat X while talking to one of the developers working on the project.

Limbo Review: An incredible side-scroller with very few faults

Limbo is a 2D side-scrolling game released by Playdead. The premise of the game is simple, bordering on basic: players assume the role of an unnamed boy searching for his sister who’s apparently lost in Limbo. While this is fine enough of a reason (excuse?) to go off on a grand adventure, it isn’t mentioned in the game at ALL, but rather pulled from the game’s Google Play page. And to clarify this point, there was no prologue, cut scenes, epilogue, narration, subtitles, or any thing else that would advance a narrative. No story, but for the byline found on Google Play. The thing is though, this game is so good that I didn’t care. Also, not only is this the closest thing I have to a complaint, it’s my sole one at that.

Tomorrow is a big day with game releases and gaming news, here is what’s coming.

Thursday are pretty much the official Android mobile game release day. Actually it is like that for all mobile gaming but then again we only care about Android. We don’t usually do a post a day ahead of what’s being released tomorrow but considering how big tomorrow is shaping up to be, it actually warrants a post like this. There is a lot to be looking forward to this Thursday.

[GDC 2015] Sick Bricks combines LEGO-style blocks with mobile gaming for some unique fun

Companion toys are not really new anymore when it comes to mobile gaming. Nintendo has their Amiibo toys, Skylanders have theirs, and even Rovio has toys that you place near your Android device of choice in order to unlock a character in the game for you to use. Spin Masters have taken this idea and expanded on it by making the toys your scan into the game have their own stats, abilities, and so on but allowing them to be customizable by swapping out parts and adding new ones.

Dot Heroes: Woop Woop Ninja is now on Android

Created by Ariano Games, Dot Heroes: Woop Woop Ninja is a Floppy Birds clone, with an RPG twist. There isn’t much of a story to speak of, so I’ll describe the gameplay. Players control a little black dot that wears a red headband. At the start of the game, and each subsequent level (so far as I played), the dot flies/falls through the air, inky contrail and all, only moving upward when the screen is tapped.
