During PlayJam’s press conference yesterday at GDC 2013 the company announced that it would be shipping out units with a couple of pre-installed games. These games turned out to be Madfinger’s Shadowgun and Hutch’s Smash Cops. Both games will be available for those of you who backed the GameStick Kickstarter campaign in order to pre-order a unit.

PlayJam’s GameStick has a little more news today and it is in regards to XBMC support which this portable Android-powered gaming console will come with when it launches. XBMC was originally created for the Xbox as a media hub but instead it wound up getting released as open source software media player people can use on their PCs or Macs.
PlayJam is gearing up to do the official unveiling of their portable Android gaming console GameStick during GDC 2013 next week as well as an announcement that is in regards to the games that will be available to play using GameStick when it goes on sale retail-wise and pre-orders ship. In our previous article about GameStick’s GDC 2013 unveiling, the company mentioned that there would be around 30 titles available for the initial launch.
For those of you who are more about having a compact, more portable, Android console instead of OUYA are probably more interested in PlayJam’s GameStick which did pretty damn good on Kickstarter and has since progressed nicely including a new design for their controller. We’ve seen plenty of pictures and video of GameStick and now anyone attending GDC 2013 next week will be able to check GameStick out in person as well.
For those of you who have decided to go a different route when it comes to Android gaming devices outside of the norm but didn’t want to buy an OUYA, PlayJam has opened up global pre-orders for their portable GameStick game console… or unconsole as some of these new Android gaming devices are now being called.
PlayJam’s GameStick is currently being developed, having undergone a redesign recently and plans to launch a month after OUYA ships out to backers of their Kickstarter campaign and a retail release in June 2013, and in an interview PlayJam’s chief marketing officer Anthony Johnson talks about OUYA as a competitor, retail backing and how GameStick may be updated with new hardware.
In terms of content OUYA seems to keep on growing bigger and bigger. While not all of the games submitted during OUYA’s CREATE contest will be made into full titles for us to play, there are still plenty of them that will become full titles and there are plenty of developers outside of the CREATE contest working on games for the Android powered console.
When we talk about a Kickstarter campaign being extremely successful it doesn’t necessarily mean that the campaign made millions of dollars in funding. Such is the case of PlayJam’s GameStick Kickstarter campaign that we have been following since it started and which has now finally ended.
While OUYA recently announced improvements to the controllers, based on feedback the company has gotten, that will be coming with the Android-based game console, one of their direct competitors has also received a new look based on feedback from backers of their Kickstarter campaign. On top of that, thanks to the successful backing that GameStick received while on Kickstarter, the unit will now come with a docking station as well.
A couple of days ago you may have noticed that the Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming portable Android gaming console GameStick had disappeared temporarily from Kickstarter. If you were a backer of the campaign, you were also treated with some neat little messages hitting your inbox regarding what was happening.
