There is always one thing we can never have enough of when it comes to our mobile devices and that is storage space. Even with 64GB or storage in your tablet it generally doesn’t take long to fill that sucker up full with music, games, movies and whatever else you enjoy stuff inside your tablet.

While the SIGGRAPH conference has gotten underway this week, Nvidia has finally begun showing off some future goodies that up until now we have only heard about. If you follow us on a regular basis then you already have probably read here that Nvidia’s Kepler GPU will be making its way to Android devices soon. You will also probably be aware that the next chipset after Tegra 4 is codenamed Project Logan, or just Logan for those of you wanting to feel a bit more personal with Nvidia’s next chipset already.
One device a lot of people are actually looking forward to but have had to wait a long time for already is the gaming-centric Android tablet called the Wikipad. Having undergone a few redesigns in hardware department, that has been the biggest cause for the delay. It finally looks like the Wikipad may actually be launching soon though as the device has passed through the FCC.
Today Nvidia held their press event at GTC 2013 and the company talked about all kinds of good stuff ranging from information about Nvidia’s GRID cloud gaming system and, of course, mobile chipset goodness was brought up. Nvidia’s CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, who is always fairly entertaining to watch during Nvidia events, was on stage once again and along with him came a new roadmap for their mobile chipsets.
nVidia today decided to come out an officially announce the other chipset we’ve known up to now as Project Grey. We have reported on the Tegra 4 series having two chipsets for awhile now, one being codenamed Wayne (normal Tegra 4) and the other being Grey. Well Grey is now officially known as Tegra 4i and it is nVidia’s first integrated LTE Tegra processor.
For those of you waiting to grab a Tegra 4 device the moment they begin arriving for consumer consumption it looks like you will be waiting a little bit longer. nVidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has come out to say that their next-gen chipset won’t begin shipping until mid-July.
It looks like nVidia could have much bigger plans then they let on during CES 2013. During that show the company revealed quite a few new products such as nVidia’s GRID cloud game streaming service, their GeForce Experience (mostly for PC gaming), Project Shield and their new Tegra 4 chipset. Well that might not be the end of it there either, at least according to the Russian tech site Mobile Review.
Usually around this time we’ve already started hearing about the next version of the Tegra series of chipsets slated to arrive from nVidia. While the roadmap was leaked some time ago with Tegra 4, codenamed Wayne, arriving by the end of this year. Considering that there must have been a delay in the plans, we are just now getting information about Tegra 4 which means we could very well likely see it announced at CES 2013.
Interesting news today coming from Texas Instruments as they have announced that they will be officially backing out of the mobile devices industry to focus on a more broader range of products such as automobiles and other technology that uses embedded chip systems. This is due to the fact that right now, for Texas Instruments, the mobile industry isn’t as stable and profitable as they had hoped it would be.
We usually don’t make it a habit to post about rumors or what ‘sources say’ most of the time but when it comes to the idea of a Google branded tablet (think Nexus tablet), we can’t help but get a little excited at the thought of one. It would be about damn time too that Google made one.
