Even though for us April Fools Day didn’t start until today, depending on where you live in the world April Fools Day was yesterday for you, hence the Google Japan jokes and Samsung getting in on the action as well. However, now it is April Fools Days for us and there are plenty of jokes and pranks going on already. We will just be keeping a running list of the funnier ones we see.
[Updated] The April Fool’s Day pranks have begun: Smasung’s Blade Edge Smartphone Knife and Google Maps Pac-Man
Depending on where you are located in the world, today is April Fool’s Day or tomorrow will be. Either way the jokes and pranks have already started and the first two spotted come from Google and Samsung. This certainly isn’t either company’s first year of pranks but this year both are quite entertaining to say the least.
One of the upcoming VR headsets that has a lot of attention on it right now is the HTC Vive, a team effort between Valve and HTC. Well HTC is hoping to have developers signing up for a free HTC Vive headset ‘soon’, and by ‘soon’ the company is hoping to have things going by next week.

There is certainly plenty of options when it comes to Virtual Reality headsets these days and we aren’t even a full three months into this year. OSVR stands for Open Source Virtual Reality and, as the name implies, is completely open source from the hardware to the software and everything in between.
Rolocule Games has announced that they have released a new Android game, called Motion Tennis Cast. This game looks like it would play much like the tennis game within Wii Sports would, as it uses motion to control what’s happening. The major difference though is in hardware, where players would only need “screens like HDTV, Smart TV or a web browser using screen cast software – Chromecast, Miracast or AllShareCast.”. The trailer demos how it works, which is basically to open the game, cast it, and you’re off to playing virtual tennis, swinging your phone as if it were a tennis racket, while seeing the game get played in a PC browser or TV.
Earlier this morning Nintendo and DeNA announced a partnership where the two companies would be working together to bring Nintendo IPs to mobile gamers. These will be coming in the form of completely new games that will be based off of currently existing IPs like Super Mario Bros. on their other platforms. Part of that announcement also was about a new multi-membership service that will be built.
There is a decent amount of news coming from Google today and there is a reason for that, Google I/O 2015 registration begins this morning at 9:00am PDT. However, before you go bananas with the reload button, trying to get your ticket before the site crashes or they are sold out in 10 minutes, which happens every year, Google will be doing things a bit differently this year.
Google Cardboard VR Quick Review: The McDonald’s Happy Meal toy equivalent of a VR headset and it works
When Google first announced it was bringing VR technology to the masses through a cardboard interface, I thought it was one of their famous April Fool’s pranks. Seeing as how April was still several months away, either they were actually serious or really getting a leg up on other pranks this year.
